Foxbury is a traditional mixed farm of
some 750 acres (300 hectares). Lying in quite an exposed position
at 300 feet on the south-eastern edge of the glorious Cotswolds
the farm is just off the A40 between Witney and Burford.
We rear beef with our own suckler herd,
lamb from our own flock, and Gloucester Old Spot pigs. Grass and
barley are grown to support the free-range livestock. Some corn
is also grown as a cash crop and some off-farm contracting fills
the quieter farming months.
Visitors are very welcome at Foxbury - come
and see us!
A few years ago, as diversification became essential to agricultural
survival, we decided to market our own clean meat direct to the
public. Out of this decision has grown a full-time, dedicated on-farm
butchery and a farm
shop selling our meat and an expanding range of other local
and British products.
The shop now has 5 full-time and 7 part-time staff, whilst the farm
has 4 full-time staff, which means that our decision to sell direct
to the local community is paying dividends in terms of creating
local employment. This is the reverse of current farming trends!
